2018–19 Officials, Timekeepers & Volunteers Required

04 Sep 2018
Following the resignation of a number of Oxon endurance officials since last season the number of Oxon officials available to assist at fixtures has now dwindled to just 3–4 people. It is no longer reasonable to expect this small handful of volunteers to make themselves available to cover all events. This has been a ticking time–bomb for some years, now, and is a direct result of the lack of volunteer officials coming forward to replace those who have retired.

The OXL therefore will require from the member clubs:

Event Adjudicator
(1 per fixture required – must not be a member of the host club(s))

Must be recognised as an Event Adjudicator by England Athletics.
This role is not onerous and it would be possible for a competing athlete to cover the role as well as run.
For more information please refer to the following resource:

Fixture Referee
(1 per fixture required)

Needs to be a senior club representative with commensurate experience of cross country.
The role may involve:
• Athlete close finishes arbitration
• Resolve issues relating to athletes going off–course and finding out why it happened
In liaison with the OXL League Manager:
• Deal with complaints about athletes, coaches, team managers
• Make decisions that may lead to athlete disqualification

Timekeepers
(2–4 per fixture required)

Ideally should be a person with some previous experience of cross country with a timekeeping qualification. Otherwise can be someone who wants to learn and will act initially as a Timekeeper’s scribe.

In addition, all non–hosting clubs will be expected to provide volunteer marshals as in previous seasons albeit the requirement has now had to be changed – see below.

Volunteer Marshals
(3 volunteers per season from all non–hosting clubs required)

The encouragement for clubs to co–host to help alleviate the burden of responsibility has been a successful innovation. However, the downside is that the solution used over recent past seasons for non–hosting clubs to provide 2 volunteers per season is no longer sufficient to cover the additional volunteer marshals required.

Please could anyone interested in volunteering for the Event Adjudicator, Fixture Referee and Timekeeper roles contact the League Manager as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention.
